Can employers verify TEFL certificates?

Yes, employers can verify TEFL certificates, and many schools do this as part of their hiring process. A reputable TEFL provider should keep student records and be able to confirm whether a certificate was issued, when the course was completed, and whether the name and certificate details match their records. Verification is usually done in one of two ways. Some providers offer an online certificate verification tool where an employer can enter a certificate number. Others ask employers to contact the provider directly by email with a copy of the certificate or the graduate’s details. For this reason, it is important to keep a digital copy of your certificate and make sure your name is spelled correctly when you register for a course. Employers may also check whether the course included key features such as at least 120 hours of TEFL training, grammar instruction, lesson planning, classroom management, and teaching methodology. While requirements vary by country and school, a clear and verifiable certificate from an established provider is generally more useful than a certificate from an unknown or untraceable source. If you complete a course with ITTT, you should keep your certificate number and course completion details available so schools can confirm your certification if needed.
