Why is English for Specific Purposes as a Methodology so Effective?
In 1945, globalization boomed and developing countries in Europe and Africa were quickly realizing that to become technologically advanced, English was the language to pursue as it was establishing itself as the international technological language. The first textbook to be published to educate students in a specified field of English was The Structure of Technical English (Herbert, 1965), which opened the door to the development of textbooks based on register analysis.

Online vs. On-Site TEFL Courses
The content of online courses and onsite courses is similar. As for the effect of learning, it varies from person to person. Some students like online courses. Because online courses do not need to go to the site to attend classes, they can go to class directly at home, which is convenient and time-consuming. It is more flexible, you can choose the time of the lecture, and you can listen to it repeatedly during the validity period. In particular, most of the users of our drop-out network are in-service personnel, and they can use the time to watch the video to learn. Face-to-face courses are convenient, some students prefer onsite courses because the courses are more direct, and they can... [Read more]

How do you teach English one-to-one?
Before delving into the specifics of conducting one-to-one lessons, we need to be mindful of certain preliminary steps essential for effective lesson planning.
Initially, you must assess your student's English proficiency level. This is usually achieved through a level test. The level test typically begins with a verbal conversation to gauge the general competency level of the student. English proficiency is often categorized on a five-point scale:
A basic level test could involve asking progressively complex questions to pinpoint the level at which the student begins to struggle.
Once the level test is completed, the next step is a needs analysis. This process aims to ascertain why the student is learning English, as needs will vary among learners.... [Read more]

How Should Teachers Analyze Their Work?
It is critical and necessary, that as purveyors of educational content, a teacher ensures they undertake periodic analysis of their methods, rationale, and motivations for the job. Periodic self-analysis is important, as it can be one defining factor in what separates a "good" from a "great" teacher. In my experience as a teacher, I have often used a teaching log to note my findings and experiences in the classroom. Brookfield (1995) defines a teaching log "as a weekly record of the events in a teacher's life that have impressed themselves most vividly on his or her consciousness"(p.72). In this paper, I present four main ideas, based on experience, in favor of a critical self-analytical method... [Read more]

Tutoring in TEFL Teaching
Teaching English to an individual student is a common form of EFL classroom setting nowadays. Luckily, I happened to have the chance to work as a one-to-one English tutor before. Although I was a novice English teacher at that time, the experience of teaching one to one certainly helped me develop as a teacher and gave me a new perception of English teaching. There were some challenges I faced as a novice English tutor which I did not know how to solve, but now after self-evaluation and taking TESOL course, I gained a deeper understanding on teaching one to one and how to solve the problems in class.

Specific Challenges of One-to-One teaching and Ways to Overcome Them with the Help of the TEFL Course Content
I have taught English in a classroom setting to large groups of adults for 4 years through a non-profit agency located in a mixed-race urban area of the United States. More recently, I have been teaching English to foreign learners on a one-to-one basis via video chat, also for four years. Given this background, I can speak from a wealth of personal experience to the differences, advantages, and disadvantages of each. As my goal is to continue to teach individuals online, I was admittedly skeptical of what I might gain from a TEFL course, as most certification programs are geared toward classroom teaching abroad. What is Teacher Self-Analysis and Why is it Significant for Student and Teacher Relationships?
Teacher self-analysis in the classroom is just as important as a critical self-reflection upon the unfolding of our lives. To know whether or not our students are getting the most out of our course, the first step must be to critically assess whether or not we are upholding our values and/or philosophical approaches to teaching. Without remaining mindful of our intentions for and approaches to teaching, it may be easy to lose sight of one's long term goals and could result in disorganization, a loss in student interest, and/or a poor student to teacher relationship. But being critical of the self is difficult due to our loyalties and... [Read more]

How Self-Analysis and Reflection Can Help a Teacher Improve
The CEO of a multi-million-dollar company I worked for once told me, "Change or change will change you." This motto has stuck with me since the day I heard him say it. It's part of the reason why I decided that I want to be a teacher. I know it's going to bring me out of my comfort zone and force me to do things that I otherwise would never do. A teacher can never stop learning; one has to constantly improve. Otherwise, what's the point? Some of the most important ways to ensure that one improves as a teacher are to self-analyze and reflect. It's fine to use these tactics at one's own pace and discretion, but they are of utmost importance.

Regardless, gaining experience in the field of syllabus design will likely prove invaluable for a teacher in their personal career development. Several considerations are required when designing a syllabus for a course in Business English and these will be discussed throughout this essay along with the methods and resources... [Read more]

Innovation in Curriculum Design
The curriculum has been used in the past as a collection of topics and syllabuses for children and young people to be learned during their school years. However, this definition does not do justice to the wider outcomes required by the real world or to the complexity of what many teachers are actually doing to promote the well-being of children and young people. It fails to define the overall objectives that the program is supposed to serve. Learning is often greatly influenced by when and how success is evaluated and how the effects of measurement are used. Therefore, evaluation needs to be seen as an important part of the process of learning. Consequently, the study has... [Read more]
