Teach EFL in Peru

Date posted:2013-07-30 | Writer: International Language Center | Email: [email protected]

We are a small language school, teaching English and other languages to local people in a small town on the Andean sierra of Peru. We are always looking for foreign EFL teachers who want to work 4 or 5 hours a day with us for a volunteer stipend and get to know the real Andean culture, far away from the beaten tourist path. We have classes of all ages. We can offer you classes comprised of preschoolers, children aged 7-10, teenagers, or adults. Previously, the majority of our classes were adult, but now we’re moving to a higher proportion of teenaged students.  We would normally offer staff classes of teenagers and adults, in a mixed schedule, with the option to teach children if you wish.

The classes are small, with just 4 – 12 students per class. Each lesson lasts between one and a half to two hours, generally, but not exclusively, in the evenings between 4 and 10pm.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

This unit shows how a lesson is planned. I have heard of this procedure before and I think it makes a lot of sense. If there was no lesson plan, there would probably be no structure to the teaching and the learning, and the teaching certainly would not be very effective. However, like said in this unit, things don't always go exactly to plan and of course lesson plans will need to be flexible. The future tenses are complex in the English language because we can use different tenses to express future meanings. Depending on what we want to underline (continuity, action ended in a moment in the future, decision made before or at the moment of speaking) we will have to use different tenses and, above all, we have to study their structure that, sometimes, can be a bit difficult to remember.
