This unit talks about teaching a new language in a balanced and manageable way. This unit was useful in teaching the basic language functions such as how to teach vocabulary and introduce new grammatical structures. I found the Engage/Study/Activate stages methods of teaching useful in matching the different types of lessons taught depending on whether I'm teaching grammar, vocabulary or function based lessons.This unit focuses on the lesson planning. Lesson plan is an aid, a working document and a record.
Basic principles in lesson planning are keep it simple, structure it, anticipated time for each activity, check for balance of skills and keep it flexible. It also recommend what to include in a lesson plan such as learner objectives, language points, anticipated problems, procedure, phase, timing, interaction etc.
