Authentic materials would include company brochures, advertisements, television and radio programs, realia, newspapers, and magazines, etc., whereas non-authentic materials include created worksheets (e.g., crosswords, word search puzzles, gap fills, etc.), flashcards, picture story cards/games, and role-play cards, to name but a few! The Convenience of Teaching ESL/EFL Online

Elizaveta Pachina Teaching Ideas I was extremely overjoyed when I saw this as one of the options for the "Summative Task", because I have been teaching EFL online for about a year and a half, and EFL in general for about two years. The reason why I started online teaching Advantages Firstly, the commute was gone, practically non-existent. Secondly, one on one attention is given to every student. Thirdly and finally, online classes are extremely flexible. Like all things, online EFL teaching doesn't come without its challenges. Firstly, maintaining student focus levels. Secondly, not enough physical activity. My final words Do you want to teach English abroad? Take a TEFL course! Related Articles: This post was written by our TEFL certification graduate Nelson A. The Difference In Teaching ESL vs. EFL

Linda Dunsmore Alumni Experiences There are many similarities, but also many differences, in teaching English as a foreign language and teaching English as a second language. Teaching English as a foreign language is when you teach English in a country that does not have English as an official language. Teaching English as a second language is when you teach English to someone who speaks another language as their first language, normally in a country where English is the official language. I have taught both English as a foreign language (EFL) and English as a second language (ESL) and these two experiences had quite a few similarities and quite a few differences. How Teaching ESL Differs from Teaching EFL

Elizaveta Pachina Alumni Experiences The terms ESL and EFL are often used interchangeably because at their root they both mean the same thing; English for people who are not native to the language. However, there are many possible differences between learners. Typically EFL stands for English as a Foreign Language whereas ESL means English as a Second Language. This means that generally speaking, those who fall into the ESL category live in a country where English is a primary language. EFL teachers are typically teaching to students in their home country where English is not typically a widely used language. For these reasons, ESL and EFL classrooms differ greatly. What is EFL? Differences in Teaching Monolingual and Multilingual EFL Groups

Laura Payne Alumni Experiences Teaching Ideas I am currently working as an Assistant Language Teacher in Japan. Before I began this job I assumed that because Japan has a largely homogeneous population, all of my classes would be monolingual. However, I was wrong in this assumption. In addition to my Japanese students, I have many students who are Brazilian or Filipino.
