What can TEFL teach you?

A TEFL course teaches you the core skills needed to teach English as a foreign language to non-native speakers. One of the biggest areas of focus is lesson planning: how to set clear objectives, structure activities, manage timing, and create lessons that help students practice real communication. You also learn how to teach grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, speaking, listening, reading, and writing in a way that is clear and engaging. TEFL training also covers classroom management, including how to give instructions, correct errors, encourage participation, and work with mixed-level groups. Many courses introduce different teaching methodologies, such as communicative language teaching, task-based learning, and student-centered instruction. These approaches help teachers move beyond lectures and create interactive lessons. Another important part of TEFL is learning how to adapt materials. You may need to use a textbook, create your own worksheets, or modify activities for children, teenagers, adults, beginners, or advanced learners. If you plan to teach online, TEFL can also help you understand virtual classroom tools, online lesson structure, and ways to keep students engaged remotely. ITTT’s TEFL courses are designed to give trainees a practical foundation in English teaching, whether they want to teach abroad, teach online, or build confidence before entering the classroom.
