More Freedom

For me personally, completing a TEFL course will give me the freedom to travel and experience different cultures while also supporting myself abroad. Ever since I was a little girl, I've had a passion to speak foreign languages and visit different countries. Perhaps this is due to the fact that I was brought up bilingual, my father is from Peru and my mother British. We spoke English and Spanish at home and every year we would travel to Peru for one month vacation. Growing up with several languages, including French in school, I developed a love for foreign languages and traveling.

Practical Skills

Today I can say that I have been fortunate to have used my language skills (English, Spanish, French and Italian) in the work environment for the past 25 years. However, I was always told by my friends and colleagues in the workplace that I was good at teaching foreign languages (mostly Spanish and French). In my spare time, I tutored and got a job briefly as a substitute foreign language teacher. These teaching opportunities allowed me to discover my true passion and purpose for using my language skills.

English is spoken worldwide. It is the second most common language and probably the most popular language when wanting to communicate at an international level. The most common is for entertainment purposes through movies, books, and music. English is also the dominant business language when you wish to communicate with someone from another country for business reasons. Most likely, if you are both from a non-English speaking country, you will both need to speak in English (as you both may not speak the other person's native language). English is the language of choice when communicating with global companies and international governments. I believe almost everyone either wants to or needs to learn English at some point in their lives.

More Opportunities

Completing a TEFL course will give me the opportunity to help others achieve their personal and/or career goals to learn English as a Second Language. The online TEFL course is cost effective and flexible. For a fraction of the cost of the in-class course abroad, I am able to complete the TEFL online course in my own time, while still working at my full-time job and taking care of my two children. Upon completing the TEFL course certification, I will stand a better chance at getting top job interviews (by phone or Skype) to teach English abroad, compared to someone who has not obtained a certification to teach English as a Second language. I will have the necessary qualifications that recruiters look for when searching and selecting certified English teachers to teach abroad. At the end of the TEFL course I know I will have the confidence to teach English as a Second Language in any part of the world and at any student level. Lastly, by completing a TEFL course you can always just teach English online, which is increasingly popular and you can make extra income while you gain teaching experience before heading abroad.
