What does a TEFL course focus on? - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ TEFL FAQs

What does a TEFL course focus on? A TEFL certification is a key requirement for employers of English teachers globally, with most now demanding a minimum of a 120-hour certificate. You can attain this certification through two primary avenues: in-class and online TEFL courses. In-class TEFL courses As the name suggests, these courses require you to attend sessions at a location where English is taught as a foreign language, usually for about four weeks. Given the accommodation necessity, these courses tend to be pricier, but they usually incorporate a teaching practice segment that significantly aids real-world teaching preparation. Thu, 07 Nov 2019 Elizaveta Pachina Alumni Experiences A Teacher’s Image in the Students’ Eyes In the spectrum of teaching there are many roles that a teacher has, and many parts they must play. All of the roles are dependent on variables such as the type of lesson that is being conducted, the part of the lesson that is taking place, and the dynamic of the students in a particular class. There are times when teaching, that the teacher will need to take control of the class. At other times the teacher may have a more passive role. They may be monitoring how assignments are being completed, or model tricky skills to use as an example. A Teacher’s Role in The Development of Student Motivation - TEFL Blog

Fri, 22 Nov 2019 Elizaveta Pachina Teaching Ideas A Teacher’s Role in The Development of Student Motivation Although it is important that a teacher maintains the students' motivation throughout the course, the initial stages are particularly important because they lay the foundation for the course. For example, if a strong motivational atmosphere is not initially established then he/she will have more difficulty motivating them when correction is needed in the later stages. If a strong motivational foundation is laid then the students' will understand that the teacher has their best interests at heart and is trying to help them as best as he/she can. Lesson Planning - Part 2 - What does a lesson plan contain?   So, the document itself needs to contain some general information about the class, for example the name of the teacher, the date and time of the lesson, what level of class is being taught and in what room, how many students are we expecting, this is important, when we've got things like photocopying and materials to do, what is the context of the lesson, in other words, what is the lesson actually about, what vocabulary or grammar point is this lesson covering and sometimes it's also useful to write out what the focus of the lesson is. So, in effect, the context of the lesson is telling us the grammar point, for example, that might be the present continuous tense, whereas the focus is telling us how we're going to go...  [Read more]

What is a hagwon and are they a good place to work? - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ TEFL FAQs

What is a hagwon and are they a good place to work? The term hagwon is used in South Korea to describe a particular type of school. The South Korean education system has two major components, the public school system and the private school system. Many South Koreans make use of both these systems, attending the government-run public schools as normal in any country and then taking additional lessons in a private school, particularly for additional learning in subjects such as English. A hagwon is therefore a private educational institution in South Korea where students can gain additional teaching in subjects which are seen as important for their education. It is estimated that during their education, 95% of South Korean students will make use of a hagwon. As such these private...  [Read more]

Mon, 25 Mar 2019 Mark Crocker TEFL Information Alumni Experiences Cultural Sensitivity in the Classroom and the Geert Hofstede Model There are several things that a teacher should consider before entering a classroom and one very important consideration, particularly for EFL teachers, is the topic of cultural sensitivity.
