Relationship Building in Another Culture
Rapport has long been considered military term-when servicemembers humanize their identity amongst their captors during the time of war. The fashion of rapport has since evolved into a meaningful approach in the teaching world-most notably teachers who chose a career abroad. The important factors listed below could prove to be the difference between miserable teaching experience and solid one.

The Most Common Challenges For The Turkish ESL Learners
There is nothing comfortable than being in your comfort zone, especially when speaking your language (native language). The feeling that comes with it, how you pronounce words, the use of jokes and proverbs, idioms, and other slang within it, no one can take that joy or even compensate it because it naturally comes from within. It makes you feel safe at home and confident even when speaking about topics that you have never seen or heard before simply because your brain is already rich with enough vocabulary. So it allows you to navigate, swim and tackle the issues from all possible angles.

The Whys of the Inconveniences between an English Detective and a Turkish Dedektif
Learning languages is for most of us, not an easy undertaking, mostly because it requires building new frameworks in our brains and lots of practice. Learning English as a second language is not an exception. By now, it's already well-known the importance of speaking English in a globalized world, and so even governments are making an effort to include it in their education plans. As an example, English is taught in both private and public schools throughout Turkey, but despite all these efforts and adjustments, not a lot of Turkish people can speak English beyond basic sentences and isolated words... so, what's happening?

The Most Common Problems of Turkish Students While Learning English
In the last years, English has become more and more popular worldwide. In most countries, children start learning a second language at an early age. Also in Turkey, the number of schools, universities and language centers where it is possible to learn English has increased significantly. Nevertheless, despite all the efforts and a considerable presence of foreign teachers, it seems that Turkish students find the English language extremely difficult to learn. Turkish students consider the education system the major cause of their school failure because it is too obsolete. I had the opportunity to work as a language teacher in Turkey for several years. Is Culture a Part of Language Learning?
When teaching English as a foreign language in a country where the native language is not English, it is easy to assume there are going to be some cultural differences between you and the students. The differences could be as little as what you eat for breakfast and which hand you pass things to someone with, or they could be as large as how you address someone and what you are allowed to talk about in public society.

Cultivating the Reading Culture in the ESL Setting
A leader must read to expand his scope of knowledge, to keep abreast of what is happening in his field of expertise and around the world. Reading stimulates one's thinking and processing. Before we develop a child in his leadership ability, we must develop something more foundational – the love for reading. As an educator, I believe reading develops inquisitiveness, which in turn, develops the interest to engage, hence build confidence, even at a young age. And in the process, to nurture the child towards leadership ability.

The Impact of Local Culture on Education in Laos
The local cultural environment undoubtedly plays a crucial role in a community's education system. When specifically talking about developing countries, it is unavoidable to include Laos among those with a strong cultural background. Although Laos can be considered a fairly small country, it surprisingly contains more than 45 different ethnic groups, most of which boast their own traditions, culture, and language. This is a peculiar context that certainly needs to be taken into consideration when talking about education development. In a country like Laos, where old traditions and beliefs are still strongly followed by the community, the education system tends to absorb many of the... [Read more]

Since the method of storytelling is so widely used in African cultures for instruction, why not integrate it into teaching English to African students as a foreign language?

Teaching Idioms and Slang: Why Learning Idioms and Slang Connects Cultures
When it comes to learning a new language, the way that we make it comfortable for us is to try and relate it to our language. How many times have you met someone from another country and you ask them how to use swear words or how to say something is cool in their native language. Since English is very commonly spoken all over the world, for students to learn idioms and slang is for them to not only learn how to say certain things but get a deeper cultural understanding. With that deeper understanding comes relativity to their own lives, which means they see the ways that we are more similar instead of different.

People around the world are choosing to learn the English language for several reasons. When in doubt, I can try using my native tongue and more often than not someone is able to respond in a language in which I am comfortable communicating. However, many challenges accompany... Most Common Problems for English Learners in Spanish-Speaking Colombia
For this assignment, I decided to research problems experienced by Colombian students learning English. I will be teaching English in Colombia and thought this subject would benefit me. My findings more generally reflect the difficulties of Spanish-speaking learners. The paper outlines the top ten difficulties for Spanish-speakers learning English (vocabulary, spelling/pronunciation, subject-verb-agreement, verb tense, dialects, subject omission, pronunciation, stress, slang, and literal translations) based on CCJK (2019). Where possible I relate this information to my experiences/examples and units in the TEFL course.
