Why Lesson Planning is a Key Tool for TEFL
As a non-native English speaker, I have experienced what is like to learn this wonderful language. Great instructors made a great impact on my learning because of the quality of lessons they deliver. A high-quality lesson cannot be taught as a master of improvisation. Planning is what made the difference from those wonderful teachers. Planning is also what helps me to have motivated students.

How Teaching Slang and Idioms Can Help Students Understand the Context and Connotations Surrounding the English Language
Throughout this course, it was mentioned that language does not happen in isolation. It is a product of the various aspects of culture, values, and context that make up the environment in which the language is used. Language can be used in vastly diverse and varied manners, and within different contexts have unique meanings. In the same way, slang and idioms are created based on specific contexts that exist within a society or group within a culture.

Motivation in the classroomThere is a difference between wanting to learn to do something than actually taking the effort to do so. Many people say they would like to learn to play guitar when they hear a friend playing a song that they themselves have only heard through Guitar Hero. Who would actually search out for a guitar instructor or would purchase a guitar to practice at home? There are those who do, but many who do not.

Affect, That and Whom - The Three Most Misconceived Words in English Grammar
Grammar is the whole system of language. It includes a set of rules known as syntax. Occasionally when working on the computer you may get a message "Error Syntax; code 141" this means you have typed into the computer something that did not fit into the rules. This is not allowed and the computer will reject it and force you to obey the rules.

The Main Principles of Teaching New Vocabulary
When considering how an ESL student learns the English language, the first aspect of the teaching material an instructor must consider is the vocabulary. Vocabulary, when breaking a sentence into individual pieces, gives a sentence its meaning. Of course, using the appropriate grammar is essential to communicating at the highest level, especially if a student is to be considered proficient to any degree. Regardless of grammar, if a student does not know the basic vocabulary, the message the student wants to convey will never leave the mental painting in the depths of his or her mind.

Should Slang and Idioms be Taught in the Classroom?
When one imagines an English language lesson, one probably pictures vocabulary drills, dictionaries, and verb conjugations. While these are all aspects that one will most likely find should they sit in on a class, perhaps there can be something fun, useful, and entertaining to be found as well, something like a lesson on slang and idioms.

The use of slang and idioms are very commonplace in conversations for native English speakers.

The Consequences of My Personal TEFL Experience
I began my TEFL/TESOL experience not having had any prior teaching experience. Therefore, teaching was something that I was learning step-by-step, reading the units and using Internet resources for additional examples when needed. Even though there is no straightforward answer to this question, the ITTT course taught me that being a teacher is so much more than just transferring knowledge to someone else.

First Language Acquisition and How it Informs Our Approach to Teaching Second Language
This topic, in particular, is of great interest to me as someone who managed to acquire two languages (Mandarin Chinese and English) at a high level. For me the journey was completely painless and the word 'acquired' is fitting since I personally never felt I had to actively undergo a 'study' to learn either language, but this statement is dependant on how we define studying and learning languages, and in turn: teaching languages. People often use the phrase 'It's like learning a whole new language' when trying to express how difficult and confusing it is to learn something, yet learning new languages shouldn't be harder than learning any other... English as a Non-Phonetic Language
Like we all know, the English alphabet has 26 letters. These 26 letters can make 44 different sounds or phonemes – 20 sounds come from the vowels a, e, i, o and u; and 24 sounds come from the remaining 21 consonants. A phoneme is the smallest unit of sound that can change the meaning of a word.

It's Not Rocket Science: Teaching Slang and Figurative Speech in English Classrooms
Understanding the use of slang in a different language is a benchmark for fluency. Once a speaker is able to navigate society by listening and speaking slang, they are better able to assimilate among native speakers. But whether or not colloquial speech has a place in English classrooms is debated among teachers. While formal English takes precedence in many classes, teaching slang can be important depending on students' reasons for learning English and their experience with the language. Incorporating slang can also be a motivational tool for teaching disengaged students.
