Job Teaching English in Istanbul, Turkey

Date posted:2018-11-08 | Writer: One World Lingua | Email: [email protected]

One World Lingua is a language school offering private and group lessons in 8 languages (English, Russian, French, German, etc) to students of all ages and levels, with regular opportunities for TEFL qualified teachers. We’ve been running our school since 2009, and are all former English teachers ourselves who started our own company. The majority of the work we do involves providing private one-on-one lessons for local people looking to improve their language skills. We also do some group lessons at businesses in central locations.

We teach all sorts of ages, levels and needs, including general language, grammar, kids, business language, test preparation (particularly SAT, TOEFL and IELTS) and more. We operate out of two offices, one off Taksim Square in the downtown of the European side of the city and another in Kadikoy, a main hub of the Asian side.

Most of our students speak at least a little English already, and are usually looking to improve their communication skills. For English, we have curriculums, a large library, and other resources available to teachers. We’re looking for energetic, outgoing native level EFL teachers who have a good understanding of grammar and experience of teaching anything from toddlers to test preparation and business language.

We are looking for both full and part-time teachers, though our preference is finding teachers who want to work full-time. The average work week is Monday through Saturday. Like most language schools, we are busiest on weekday evenings, and Saturdays can also be busy early in the day.

The pay range is between 5,500 and 9,000 TL depending on the number of hours worked, which can vary depending on how much experience a teacher has teaching the aforementioned subjects. The average number of lesson hours worked per week is 26-30.

For teachers who don’t have experience in certain areas (for example, test preparation), we do offer in-house personnel development.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

About unit8, it is about teaching productive skills (speaking and writing). From it, I understand writing skills is the most neglected skill between those 4 skills, it is hard teach in group, so it suits to guide students individually. On the contrary, in speaking skills, there are a lot of game cases for group work, I think it can be good reference and it will helpful for teaching. There is a wide range of books and materials that could be of great help to teachers when teaching a new language. Authentic materials, created materials and course books are always available for teachers to make each and every lesson an effective one. And in this unit, I also learned that it always depends on teachers' flexibility and creativity to efficiently teach their students.
