Why I Decided a TEFL Course was the Right Path for Me
First of all, what is a TEFL course? TEFL stands for teaching English as a foreign language and a TEFL certificate course is a plan of study that gives people the necessary tools to become a well prepared and properly qualified English language teacher. For me, this is just what I needed!

My Personal Vision of Rapport Building
One thought, in particular, stood out to me as I was reading Unit 6 of the Business English course. That was how to relate to others who are from different cultures around the world. So as a teacher relating to students means in my mind establishing connections (establishing rapport). I believe rapport is the foundation that binds a teacher to students. Without rapport, there's no trust and poor communication which is the opposite of what I am trying to achieve.

How English as a Mother Tongue influences Foreign Language Acquisition
When I chose this topic, I asked myself what a foreign language is. Is it just a language spoken in another country that's not similar to one's own? Or does a language spoken in another city or district in one's country qualify as a foreign language? According to Wikipedia, a foreign language is originally from another country than the speaker.

There is a multitude of language experiences people can have, each with their own intricacies and uniqueness. Via this school, I was then approached by another institution to teach English to future hotel directors and hotel receptionists.

3 Important Reasons to Complete a TEFL Course
A few weeks ago, I was pondering on what was required for me to have a successful TEFL teaching career. I came to the conclusion that I needed to start from the beginning and complete a TEFL course. There were many different TEFL courses being offered on several websites. I compared several different TEFL courses and finally decided on the TEFL course offered by the International TEFL and TESOL Training (ITTT), as it appeared to provide the best overall value in terms of quality, rating, resources, and cost. For a beginner TEFL teacher, I think there are several advantages for completing the TEFL course. First, it provides me with the essential teaching tools and materials that I will need to... Connecting Dots Through English
Have you ever wondered why people all over the world are somehow curious about the English language? Or why does a country like Japan wherein the English language is not a requirement to get a job, is on-demand for more competent and effective English teachers? These kinds of questions make me remember my favorite quote, "Everything has a reason"; And yes somehow, English exists for a reason of course. You might be thinking why I entitled this essay "Connecting Dots Through English", well you will find out why, as you read more on this essay.

Why Complete a TEFL Course? - Is it really helpful?
For me, the decision to take a TEFL course was one that I had not planned on at any time in my life until recently. English to me was never my strongest subject in school. As an American growing up I found my personal education experience to be fairly mundane and unrewarding. The courses that I enjoyed more were math and science, especially physics. These topics seemed to hold my interest better. Traditional school was never a priority to me, but an understanding of how things work and why is what captivated my interest.

The 3 Most Important Things I Learned as an EFL Teacher in Korea
Looking back at my teaching life, I'm very proud of the teaching experiences I've had. Even though my teaching experiences are limited to one culture, Korea, still they are all very special and unique in their own ways. I started my journey as an EFL teacher a couple of years ago, thinking that I could learn other languages myself. I thought that I would move from place to place, possibly different countries, and learn different languages and get various teaching experiences in different settings. However, it turned out to be Korea only. I could soak up Korean culture and learn the language more easily because of my origin. The more time I spent teaching, the more I got to... [Read more]
