Native Tongue is a private English Language Institute in the city of Ibague, Colombia.
Located 200 km. west of Bogot, Ibague is a city of 500, 000 inhabitants with all modern amenities. Situated in a valley surrounded by tropical mountains, the climate is near perfect normally reaching 28 and dropping to 18 at night. Although Colombia does have some political and economic problems, safety is no more a concern than it would be in any large North American city. The people are very sociable and the city is vibrant with activity and nightlife. Native Tongue is Canadian owned and operated. The classrooms, equipment and ideas are all modern. Students will be of all ages and the courses will be very dynamic for both the student and teacher.

We are looking for experienced teachers to start work immediately. Coiples are welcome. A clear voice with no noticeable accent is important. An outgoing, energetic person is a must. Spanish is not necessary.

We offer:
-1,300,000 Colombian Pesos monthly (approx. $700.00 Canadian). In Colombia this equates to three times minimum wage or double what a local teacher is paid.
-Airfare compensation at the end of your contract.
-Medical insurance.
-A secure, modern apartment with three bedrooms and two bathrooms will be shared. Utilities included.
-Maid service.
-Four weeks paid vacation plus approximately 15 other paid holidays.
-Airport reception and transportation.

Send a complete resume and photo to be considered for a position. Only Applicants from Ontario, Canada will be considered (for VISA reasons).

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

When learning a language, there are receptive and productive skills. The receptive skills are reading and listening. Both are equally important. There are 2 main motives for reading and listening – to achieve a purpose or entertainment. There are different type of reading including scanning, skimming, and detailed reading. Pre-teaching vocabulary is sometimes useful at the beginning of the study phase of an activity. In this unit, I found a huge amount of different materials which teacher can use to help their students improve the English language. I studied the difference between authentic and created materials, and also how to use course book in an efficient way. I liked the examples of created materials provided in this unit. And what I enjoyed most were the web links where a teacher can find a large amount supplementary materials.
