TEFL Jobs in Asia General

If you’re looking for a real world experience but need to ensure that you’ll find a TESOL job, Asia is the place for you. Asia’s market is as hot as you’re going to find anywhere in the world. When it comes to China, it’s not about finding a job; it’s about finding the right job to suit your individual tastes and needs. After China, you’ve got the Far East and Southeast Asia as well as Mongolia, the Indian subcontinent, and many of the Former Soviet Republics (FSRs).

Azerbaijan, Kirgizstan and Kazakhstan are some of the better options for paying jobs and if you’re looking to volunteer, Armenia is also a good choice.

Types of English Teaching Positions in Asia

TESOL positions in Asia can be divided into three main categories: private schools, university work, and freelance teaching.

Universities are generally lower paid but your students will be keen to learn. Students tend to be more engaging and you will have time to do additional work to augment your salary. Universities also tend to be more consistent with pay and offering assistance with visas and other paperwork.

Securing a TESOL Job in Asia

There are many ways to find jobs in Asia. If it makes you feel better to find a job before you arrive, you can often use a recruiting firm to secure a TESOL job. Be sure that you have a contract from the school itself and have looked into the recruiting agency as well as the school itself.

The demand for teacher is so high that you only need to be a native speaker. However, if you’d like to find a good job, you’ll need certification such as that from TEFL International. If you have no experience, nor qualifications and you’re considering teaching for longer than the very short term, you really should look into getting the TESOL certificate from TEFL International. This will increase your earning potential and give you the necessary teaching skills to perform your job effectively.

  •  Volunteer EFL Teachers Needed Near Himalayas, Pakistan

    Expand

    Date posted:2012-01-18 | Writer: The Kaghan Memorial Trust | Email: volunteer@kmt.org.pk

    The Kaghan Memorial Trust (KMT) is a non-profit charitable organisation that is currently establishing the first of a number of schools providing free education for underprivileged children in Pakistan. This is an excellent opportunity for TEFL teachers wishing to bring a real and sustainable difference to a severely deprived community. It will also allow the volunteer to experience a rich and frequently misunderstood part of the world. The Trust provides its volunteers with accommodation, meals, one return air ticket per year for travel between their home country and Islamabad, visa expenses, local health cover, local transport facilities and a monthly stipend of Pak. Rs. 10,000 (approx US $117) to cover incidental expenses.

    KMT is currently recruiting teachers to work on a volunteer basis at its Kaghan Memorial School (KMS) in the Kaghan Valley, Northern Pakistan. We are looking for qualified female teachers to fill these positions in March/April 2012 with a commitment to work with us until early March/April 2013 (The start period is dependent on the issuance of a one year NGO visa, processing which takes around 2-3 months). The main responsibilities of these teachers will include:

     •Developing daily lesson plans for the lessons assigned to them;
    •Delivering lessons for their assigned classes and subjects;
    •Working with, and supervising, the KMS local teaching team to ensure that lessons are delivered and assessed according to the vision of the School and in line with modern teaching practices;
    •Providing training and support for the local teachers working at KMS;
    •Developing and improving the KMS curriculum;
    •Organising events and activities at KMS for the students and staff;
    •Performing administrative duties related to classroom management such as inventorying of supplies and maintenance of class lists.

    Applicants will need to have a college degree and experience teaching children and/or teaching English as a second language, preferably witha TEFL / TESOL qualification. Experience overseas will be an asset. Fluency in Urdu is not a necessity as KMS international teachers are supported in their classrooms by local teachers and teaching assistants who act as interpreters when required. It is essential that the candidate has a strong sense of commitment to the Trust’s objectives and is willing to volunteer to work for KMT for at least one full year. The applicant should also be able to readily adapt to different cultures.

    Interested candidates may apply by writing to Mr. Khurram Khan, Managing Trustee KMT at the e-mail address given on the job heading. All applications should be accompanied by a covering letter, a detailed resume, a photo and a copy of your passport (or NIC in the case of Pakistani applicants). Short listed candidates will be contacted for further information including references. An interview may also be scheduled at a later stage.
