Elementary Teacher Position 

The Canadian International School of Phnom Penh (CIS) is home to a growing community of almost 1,000 students from Nursery through Grade 12. CIS follows the Alberta (Canadian) curriculum in addition to delivering the IB Diploma Programme. CIS is working towards IB PYP authorization.

CIS has three, centrally located campuses in the heart of Phnom Penh. It boasts world-class facilities, including spacious classrooms, two gymnasiums, performing arts theatre, two libraries, two makerspaces, art lofts, pottery studio, recording studio, a short-course swimming pool, fitness centre, a grass playing field and multiple covered outdoor learning and play spaces.

Summary 

The Elementary Teacher will teach students in Senior Kindergarten to Grade 5. Generalist classroom teaching will be aligned with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework. 

Responsibilities 

● Create an inclusive, welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment 

● Utilise a student-centered approach, share agency with students and position students as partners in their own learning via an inquiry-based approach 

● Create engaging, relevant, challenging, authentic learning experiences for all learners 

● Communicate high expectations for all students 

● Deliver explicit and structured literacy instruction 

● Use technologies and innovative learning platforms 

● Incorporate a range of instructional strategies 

● Employ classroom management strategies that promote positive, engaging learning environments 

● Plan and design learning activities that address the learning outcomes outlined in the Alberta (Canadian) Programs of Study 

● Utilise differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners; collaborate with Student Services Team as needed 

● Utilises a variety of practical assessment and evaluation practices 

● Work with the PYP Curriculum Coordinator to implement the new Alberta Education curriculum 

● Contribute to co curricular activities after school 

● Support and follow school policies and procedures 

● Perform other duties as assigned by the Elementary Principal 

Qualifications and Experience 

● Bachelor’s degree in education required, master’s degree an asset 

● TEFL/TESOL certificate/diploma preferred

● Ideally at least 5 years of successful elementary-level teaching experience in an inquiry-based setting, such as the IB PYP 

● Experience working with inclusive and diverse school communities very important

● Demonstrates cultural competence and enjoys learning about new cultures 

● Patient, flexible and adaptable 

● Comfortable using ICT, especially Macbooks, iPads and Google Workspace
