English Grammar - Past Perfect Continuous - Teaching Ideas 2 - ESL Jobs

The teaching idea for the past perfect continuous tense covered in this video is an adaptation of a present perfect continuous idea. The past perfect continuous is rarely used so it can be quite hard to think up original and interesting ideas for it so adapting ideas for other tenses where suitable is useful. For this idea students are given situation that was happening in the past and the other students having to say what they think had been happening before that event to cause it. For example: Yesterday you were crying (because you had been watching a sad film). If you are thinking about becoming an English teacher you should consider getting yourself properly qualified. It was highly interesting watching these videos of examples of how a lesson should be structured and exactly what one can do to make a lesson appealing to learners. Clearly building a rapport is of huge importance because learners then feel comfortable to engage with the content and not feel afraid to make mistakes as these mistakes are of vital importance for them and the teacher.Unit 16 covered conditionals and reported speech, and how to teach these concepts. this is another area in which native English speakers don't often stop to consider the rules of grammar. They just speak naturally. This makes this another topic that can be difficult to teach. The chart that shows the tense conversion from going from direct speech to reported speech was very helpful.
