Are you looking for a place with an exciting night life? Medan isn't the place for you. Are you looking for an opportunity to teach in a city that is the gateway to all the great spots in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysian, Thailand, Philippines, and Malacca, then Medan is the spot for you.
Medan is the 3rd largest city in Indonesia with a population of about 2.8 million people. It is busy but not nearly as densely populated as Jakarta.
It is situated on the North East of the island of Sumatra, one of Indonesia's largest islands. We have the Indian Ocean on the left and the Strait of Malacca on the right. We are short boat/plane journeys from Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.
Most of the people are laid back, and accept foreigners with an open heart. The people here really want to learn English, and you'll quickly find your self being absorbed into the mainstream of life.
Medan has modern shopping malls, Western Restaurants (if you want) and numerous outdoor traditional shopping stalls.
Here at EF English First Medan we are looking for teachers with a TEFL certificate or the equivalent in education or experience. We require a 4 year degree as well. You must be over 25 years old, and energetic. Having a good sense of humor and a large capacity for patience is a plus as well.
We offer small classes, well behaved motivated students, a variety of teaching hours, and a mix of young learners as well as adult and specialty classes.
Our compensation package includes a competitive salary that will allow you to live a very comfortable life style, repayment of your airfare on completion of your contract, 22 paid holidays per year, medical insurance, all visa fees, and a minimum one month bonus on the completion of your contract.
You are also provided with free shared housing. Your electricity, phone, security, internet and maid, are all on your expense, but they amount to a small fraction of your salary. For example, a maid that cleans your house and does your laundry will cost you about $15.00 American per month. The school pays all but 10% of your taxes as well.
