ESL Teacher needed for refugee youth program

We are looking for volunteer teachers for a minimum commitment of 10 weeks, to deliver English classes to refugees and asylum seekers in the Epirus region of Northern Greece. The ideal candidate would have experience teaching English as a foreign/second language and would possess a strong understanding of or passion for the context we work in. Experience in delivering educational activities in this context is a strong advantage.

Your role would include:Planning and delivering lessons for classes that can range from A0 (illiteracy) to B2, taking into account individual differences in level within each classPreparing class materials and assessmentsEmpowering students with interpersonal – and life – skills; and incorporating these skills into lesson planningCompleting various administrative tasks such as tracking attendance and communicating class updates to the studentsEnsuring student engagement and progressWorking closely with the Education Manager to ensure the programme is being delivered to the expected standards of Second TreeParticipating in various community engagement activities so as to maintain relationships with students outwith the classroom context such as: picnics, community lunches, sporting events, etc.

The ideal candidate will have:Experience working in the refugee contextExperience teaching low-level literacy students

In certain periods of the year, demand is extremely high, and the volunteer houses might be full. If you have the means to pay for your own accommodation, please let us know. We would still be happy to host you if space is available. However, in a situation where the volunteer houses are full, this would allow us to offer a volunteering opportunity to someone that cannot afford to pay rent.

RequirementsYou must have a degree in teaching and/or Certification in English language teaching (TEFL/TESOL/CELTA or equivalent).
