Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

This unit reviews the different special groups an ESL teacher may find themselves teaching. A few of the special groups that are reviewed are total beginner students, young learners, and business English students. Each group varies in motivation for learning English and best styles of teaching. For instance, young learners pick up the language much quicker, but are more prone to be disinterested or unmotivated than adult beginners. This unit helped me to recognize possible problems for language classes and addressed solutions for them. The most helpful was for reluctant students. I never thought that these students might actually prefer role plays to other class-based participation activities. Certainly pair work would help them gain confidence. Also, allowing them to record answers outside of class may help them participate without being overly stressed.
