Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.
The two receptive skills are reading and listening. These skills are equally important, although I would like to add that in younger students (age about 13 or below), their listening skills in their home language are stronger than their reading skills. Up until about age 13, students are still learning how to read and comprehend texts. When those students are also ELL learners reading becomes significantly more challenging.This course has taught me about the common traits of both good teachers and good students. It has outlined different teaching styles such as; Model, Tutor, and Observer. Many of these styles I have used in lessons of my own. I have been able to reflect on my previous teaching experiences and can now use this information to further my expertise. Furthermore this unit has taught about the different levels of English learners.
