Start Language School in Kosice, Slovakia would like to hire 2 full-time (twenty 60-minute lessons per week) native-speaker teachers to start in September. We are a new, small school with private students and mostly evening lessons.

We are able to arrange accomodation for teachers working on full time contracts. The pay is competitive for Eastern Europe (above the average salary for all jobs) and it goes a very long way in Slovakia but doesn't convert to a lot of western currency. We teach using our version of the direct method, so you don't need to be able to speak Slovak. We provide training for new teachers.

There are two main requirements. First of all you must be a native speaker. All of our teachers are native speakers and this is an important part of our marketing strategy so we will not consider or even reply to applications from non-native speakers, even those with fantastic English or who have spent a long time in English-speaking countries.

Secondly, as Slovakia is part of the EU so you must have permission to work here (so in most cases you will be from Britain, Ireland or Malta unless your spouse is from the EU or you have dual citizenship somewhere else in the EU - for example an American with a parent from Greece). We don't have an in-house immigration lawyer so we can't arrange a visa for you if you are from outside the EU.

We normally get a lot of responses from applicants who do not fulfil these two conditions, so please mention any citizenships you hold in the main body of the email (not just in your attached CV).

You will have a big advantage if you have at least one of TEFL training or any kind of previous teaching experience. A lot of our students are beginners so you must be comfortable with the idea of teaching students who can't understand dictionary-type explanations of words, however we can provide additional training in this area.

Kosice is a fun city, and is said to have the most beautiful people in Europe so we hope you take this chance to come here and experience it. To apply, contact: [email protected]

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

I learnt about class management and the various components involved (Groupings, seating arrangements, maintaining control, the importance of eye contact, gestures and my voice). There was also lots of good advice regarding some things to be aware or not to do (e.g. pointing at students with your finger, shouting) and other things that one should (or at least try) to do (using names at the end of a question etc.).This chapter combines the essential elements of teaching techniques with lesson planning. Although creating a lesson plan may help create structured procedures to help the class can run more smoothly, it may also restrict student learning as flexibility is decreased. Through practice and experience, the teacher should be able to winnow the lesson plan to the elements that are the most vital for student learning.
