Teach English in Myanmar - Yangon

Date posted:2005-04-04 | Writer: ELECT International Education | Email: [email protected]

ELECT is a Western managed institution, recently formed in response to an overwhelming need for Myanmar students to have the opportunity to gain an international standard tertiary qualification without having to leave the country (Getting visas for foreign countries is a major problem for Myanmar nationals).

ELECT is partnering with Australian Universities and Tertiary Colleges to deliver degree and diploma programs that will be taught by Australian lecturers to Australian standards. Graduates from our courses will hold an internationally recognised degree or diploma awarded by our partner Australian institution.

The ELECT ESL program you will be teaching is primarily to assist students to achieve the required IELTS scores for commencement of degree and diploma courses. The program will be ongoing and will also cater to the general public, where there is a strong interest in developing English language skills.

Contrary to impressions you may have from the international media, Myanmar is a very safe place to live especially as a foreigner and the Myanmar people have a natural warmth and charm that makes you want to stay longer and return often. The culture is predominately Buddhist with significant numbers of Christian, Hindu and Muslim.

There are facilities to ensure comfortable living for westerners including supermarkets with international products, good restaurants and social spots. Living costs are low and accommodation comfortable with inexpensive domestic staff if desired.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

Unit 14 was about course books and lesson materials. Unit 14 explained how lesson materials can be divided into authentic and created. It also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of using course books. In addition, it outlined tips for the best ways to use course books and the four options we can use course books. I learned useful ways to incorporate course books and lesson materials to better suite my students needs. As an organized person myself, I find the necessity of keeping a record of lessons encouraging. It makes sense to me to plan out what you are going to do, because once it is in front of you, you can really see what the point of the lesson plan is, or vice versa. I am excited to determine the needs of my students, decide what goals they should accomplish, and work out a series of lesson plans in order to get them to that goal.
