Burao Academy of Science and Technology is an independent, nonprofit, coeducational boarding school offering a comprehensive education with a strong emphasis on STEM and practical, career-oriented learning. The school prepares students from across the Horn of Africa for real-world challenges through rigorous academics, applied learning, and analytical problem-solving skills.The Academy emphasizes teacher collaboration, common planning time, and an extended school day to drive student achievement.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or higher• Native English speakers preferred• Altruistic or volunteer service experience• Teaching, tutoring, lesson planning, or youth supervision experience• Strong interpersonal and communication skills• Ability to adapt, remain flexible, and work effectively in a cross-cultural environment• Experience in Africa or other developing regions is desirable but not required
Responsibilities
• Teach English language, writing, and literature• Develop students’ reading comprehension, academic writing, and communication skills• Collaborate with colleagues through co-planning and shared resources• Assist in developing and implementing the English curriculum• Prepare lessons that accommodate diverse learning needs• Create a classroom environment supportive of students’ academic, social, and emotional development• Assess student progress, maintain records, and prepare progress reports• Identify student learning needs and collaborate with staff to support student success• Participate in extracurricular activities such as reading clubs or library development• Engage in school-based and community projects• Remain flexible and assist as needed within the school community
