Which TEFL jobs offer visas?
TEFL jobs that are most likely to offer visa support are usually full-time, in-country teaching positions with recognized employers. These may include private language schools, public school programs, international schools, universities, and larger education companies. In many cases, the employer helps with documents needed for a legal work visa, but the teacher must still meet the country’s immigration and hiring requirements.
Visa support is often associated with TEFL markets such as South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and Thailand, where schools commonly hire foreign English teachers. However, visa rules can change, and sponsorship is never automatic. Requirements may include a bachelor’s degree, a TEFL or TESOL certificate, a clean criminal background check, health checks, notarized documents, and a passport from an eligible country, depending on local regulations.
Online TEFL jobs usually do not offer work visas because teachers often work remotely as independent contractors. Short-term tutoring, volunteer roles, and informal teaching jobs are also less likely to provide visa assistance.
To improve your chances, apply to reputable schools, read contracts carefully, and ask employers directly what visa support they provide before accepting a job. Completing a recognized TEFL certification course, such as those offered by ITTT, can also help you meet common employer requirements and prepare stronger applications.
