STARTBODY

When should I apply for TEFL jobs?

In most cases, it is best to start applying for TEFL jobs around 2 to 3 months before your desired start date. This gives you enough time to complete interviews, prepare documents, compare offers, and handle any visa or work permit requirements where applicable. However, the ideal timing depends on where and how you want to teach. Private language schools in many countries hire throughout the year because student enrollment is ongoing. For these jobs, you may find openings at almost any time, though being flexible with your start date can help. Public schools, universities, and government teaching programs often recruit according to the academic year, so applications may need to be submitted several months in advance. If you want to teach English online, hiring is typically more flexible, and you can apply year-round. Online employers may still require a TEFL certificate, demo lesson, or teaching equipment setup before you start. If you are currently completing a TEFL course with ITTT, you can begin preparing your job application materials before graduation. Update your resume, write a short cover letter, gather references, and research typical requirements in your target market. Once your certificate is complete, you will be ready to apply quickly and professionally. Starting early improves your options, but always check each employer’s timeline carefully.
