On the Peloponnese Peninsula, Corinth has many archeological sites, and besides Athens, is the most frequently visited area of the Greek mainland. Visiting the Peloponnese provides a wonderful opportunity to experience traditional Greek culture. The gateway to the Peloponnese, Corinth is only 50 miles from Athens and has beautiful countryside and lots of historic ruins to explore. Ancient Corinth is a significant historical site. Towering above the ancient town is Acrocorinth, a fortress used by Turkish, Venetian and Byzantine occupying forces during the middle ages.
Modern Corinth has all the amenities you’ll want for an enjoyable stay. Many charming restaurants, cafes and bars, several beaches and all the services you may need, such as banks, shops, public transportation to Athens and surrounding communities and travel agencies.
A few of the interesting places to go during your TEFL course in Corinth are:
Ancient Corinth - This ancient town, only 7 kilometers from Corinth, is the main attraction in the area. It offers several impressive sites, the most memorable being the Temple of Apollo from the 5th Century B.C. A great on-site museum displays wonderful statues and mosaics.
St. Paul’s Metropolitan Church - This is a must-see trip. St. Paul spoke to the Corinthians from the tribune here.
Acrocorinthos - The Byzantines, Venetians, Turks and Romans left these ruins. From the Temple of Aphrodite at the top of the 575 meter hill, you have spectacular views. The impressive walls date back to medieval times.
Corinth Canal - This engineering feat began in 67 A.D. and wasn’t completed until 1893. The six kilometer long canal was blasted straight through the Peloponnese to avoid having to go around it by boat. Busses and trains from Athen to Corinth pass over it, but it is best to see its 90 meter high walls from the water.
It is easy to get to Corinth, being only 90 minutes from Athens International Airport (E. Venizelos). The train station on Demokratias has a busy schedule running in both directions. Three different bus stations serve Corinth. For Athens, use station A, close to the train station. Near the corner of Kolokotroni and Koliatsou you can hop a bus to Ancient Corinth. Most other destinations leave from the station close to the corner of Koliatsou and Ermu.
Our TEFL International center in Corinth has close ties to a recruiting agency, which will provide help in finding a TEFL position in Greece. Upon completion of your course, we are happy to help you find a job in Greece or anywhere else you may like.
