When teaching English, we may need to change our techniques to fit special groups. Teaching beginners require us to be more visual, ask lots to questions, and revise constantly. We need to praise and encourage beginners and not over correct them. Teaching one on one greatly changes the teaching dynamic. An advantage of teaching one on one is that there is no difference in level, and we can focus in on the interests of the student. Teaching children can be very rewarding since they absorb information well. The teacher will need to vary activities often, have fun, and not be afraid of making fun of themselves. Discipline should be fair and consistent and never physical. Business English can take a variety of forms and come with unique challenges. Having a vast knowledge of the business is not needed, but it is good to have an idea when and how English will be used by the clients. Since often there will be quite a variance in the skill level, job responsibility, and even age of the clients, it is best to do a needs analysis and needs negotiation before the class begins. Monolingual classes are comprised of students who speak the same L1. Usually these classes are taught in the country where the major language is the student's L1. Some advantages are that the students usually have the same language problems and culture. Multilingual classes are comprised of students coming from various countries speaking various L1. They are usually learning English in an English speaking country. Some advantages of teaching this group of students is that they only have English as a common language, so English use is elevated. Also, these students will get more natural exposure to English.
