Immediate Start Teaching English in Peru

Date posted:2018-02-27 | Writer: Extreme Learning Centers | Email: [email protected]

Extreme Learning Centers (ELC), with over 12 years in Peru, is looking for qualified native level English speaking TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certified teachers. Experience is always great, but not a requirement for mature and dedicated teachers. Due to resent growth, we need four more teachers who are available to start immediately. We also hire throughout the year as needed.

Arequipa is a beautiful city high up on the western slope of the Andes Mountains. We have a moderate Mediterranean-style climate, with sunshine over 310 days per year. We are a one hour flight from Lima and Cusco. The city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with an amazingly beautiful main square. ELC has two locations in Arequipa, serving approximately 1,000 students of English.

We provide our EFL teachers with a fully developed curriculum, teacher guides, exams and extra materials. We use a student-centered approach in which student production of language is emphasized. Each monthly cycle lasts for 18 days (Monday through Friday) and 4 Saturdays for Kid’s classes. Adult classes range from 4 to 16 students (average class size is 10), each class lasting two hours, with a 10 minute break in the middle). Teachers teach 3 groups of adult each month. We also provide observations and feedback for our teachers so that all of us can continue to grow professionally.

Peru is a developing nation, so our students cannot afford to pay high prices for classes. Therefore, we are unable to pay for flights or provide free housing. We do provide airport pick-up, help finding an affordable place to live and orientation training. Most teachers earn approximately $5 per hour. While this may seem low, minimum wage in Peru is approximately $1.25 per hour. So our teachers can live just fine on their wages. We ask for a minimum three month commitment, with a preference for a six month commitment.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

In this unit, I felt that the repetitions of present tenses became more complex. It is easy to understand the text and the future tense as a whole. I can see a structure, a pattern between the present, past and futures tenses. My way of studying has also changed before I would read the PDF files first and then watch the videos. Now I watch the videos first and then read the PDF files. In this unit, I have learned that speaking and writing are called productive skills. Speaking activities can be controlled, guided or creative communication. Written text has a number of differences from speaking, such as layout, spelling, handwriting and punctuation. I have also learned the difference between accuracy and fluency activities and which phase they are usually a part of.
