Abaarso School has opportunities for TEFL trained individuals interested in dedicating at least one year to training top high school students. Teachers will join the school culture that puts the growth of the school and the students first, while finding a way around the challenges inherent in working in the developing world. Between the classroom, preparation, student groups, office hours, and other projects, teachers should expect 50-70 hours of work each week. With successful performance, significant upward mobility is possible for staff members.

Abaarso School, featured in the New York Times and BBC World, is a non-profit boarding high school educating the best and the brightest Somali students in the Horn of Africa. The school prepares students to excel in higher education, while also focusing on extracurricular activities and community service. The school encourages morality and a strong sense of responsibility for improving the students' community. While only founded in 2009, Abaarso School has achieved success not seen in the area for several decades. After three graduating classes, Abaarso has placed over 60 Somali students on international scholarships including dozens in the United States. Abaarso School graduates have been admitted to schools like Harvard, Yale, Brown, MIT, Georgetown, Amherst, Brandeis, and many more.

The following qualifications and experiences are highly desired: prior teaching experience, altruistic work/volunteer experience, experiencing working with children, prior work or study experience in developing countries.

Abaarso School teaching positions are determined through a year-round rolling application process but we are currently accepting applications for teachers in various subjects beginning immediately, or in July 2017.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

The unit 7, I think is very useful because is necessary to teach the correct vocabulary, grammar and functions to the students. For example this unit give me a lot of good ideas to teach like as good techniques of teaching because is true each pupil is not equal, maybe the culture and the own language influenc of differents ways, so each pupil have differents methods of the learning.Unit 1 talked about teachers and learners. Who could be considered as a good teacher or learner. A good teacher ought to focus on his/her teaching as well as the progress of his/her student, motivating them every step of the way. Again, rules of a teacher in the classroom was taught, different stages or levels of English learners as well as what could motivate a student to learn English.
