Opportunities exist in both the state sector (universities) and Hogwons (private language schools). Most opportunities are at the thousands of Hogwons across the country. A large percentage of teachers gain employment in Seoul or Pusan, although there are excellent employment possibilities in smaller cities and towns throughout the country.
Many teachers complain of the working conditions but others feel that the high salaries counterbalance this. It is not unusual for teachers willing to work overtime to earn up to US$ 6,000 per month. Savings can therefore be very high. Any teacher who has a university degree, a recognized TEFL/TESOL certificate and is a native English speaker, should have no problem whatsoever in finding employment teaching English in Korea.
Korean culture approaches most things differently to western cultures. You therefore need to be open minded to cultural differences.
