Teach TEFL in Azerbaijan
Date posted:2008-10-22 | Writer: EF Baku | Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
EF Baku are looking for TEFL qualified English teachers to teach 25 hours a week, plus 15 for administration duties. Salary is $1,500US with visa costs, insurance, return air ticket and accommodation assistance all provided by the school. The school is located close to the centre and is easy to get to. Our students are mostly adults wishing to learn English for themselves, or for work with the oil companies. In addition we get students wishing to prepare for TOEFL exams, do conversation classes and some kids. Class size is a maximum of 12 students.
New teachers are met at the airport upon arrival and taken to their flat. Then there is a period of settling in - introduction to the school and city - before work begins. Contracts are for 11 months. The school pays for all visa costs, arranges the work visa, pays for insurance, return flight at successful completion of contract and offers assistance with finding accommodation. Teachers are found single accommodation (no sharing) near the school and city centre. The cost of rent does not take up a large portion of the salary - this is probably one of the few teaching posts where it is easy to actually save money. Typically, there is one bedroom, kitchen (often with washing machine) and living room with television and bath, as well as a balcony for enjoying summer evenings.
Daily life and Practicalities
The cost of living in Azerbaijan is low, in relation to native teachers' salaries. Rent for a one bedroom flat near the centre is, currently, around $300 US. Public transport in Baku is very inexpensive and there are buses, metro and taxis to choose from. A taxi ride anywhere in the city centre costs about two Dollars. Of course, the city being so compact, it's just as easy to walk to most places. If you’re interested, contact Steve Corney (DOS) at the email address given on the job heading page.
