EF English First School in Changsha:
Situated in the commercial area of the city, our center is on a busy main road and is visible from a distance. The center has a very high profile, being within walking distance of McDonalds, a number of banks, restaurants, shopping malls and a few street markets.
EF Changsha is a franchise in EF English First's worldwide network of schools. We are one of over 50 EF?s in China. The Franchise China Head Office is in Shanghai.
The center occupies the second floor of a modern building. Most of the rooms, including the large teacher?s room, have large windows that look out onto the bustling street. The teacher?s room is well equipped. Each teacher has a personal work area and storage space. An internet-able computer is provided for lesson preparation and personal use.
Classrooms are large and bright. Whiteboards and comfortable chairs make learning as comfortable as possible. In addition there is a computer lab, which doubles as a listening laboratory, as well as Internet access, videos and VCR/VCD equipment onsite.
Our aim at EF is to teach English in a communicative. The focus of our classes is primarily on speaking and listening. There is by necessity a core of grammar and target language in every lesson. While EF tries to stress the communicative method, it is important to understand we do cover the basics and we are here to teach, not play.
At this point our students are mostly young learners, from six to 12. We do have teenage classes, young adults and some business classes. Courses are constructed around texts, cassettes, and multi media material. We do have a set curriculum and teachers are encouraged to adapt it to the needs of particular students.
Our classes begin with Starters (our youngest learners), then on to High Flyers and Trailblazers. Our general English program has 11 levels, which correspond to a stage level. As much as possible, teachers are placed according to preferences and abilities. That being said, it is important for teachers to have a measure of flexibility.
EF has become an important part of the academic live of many students. We have also become part of their life outside the learning arena. Our center fulfills a social need for many students, so that at times it does resemble a community center more than a traditional school.
We hope new teachers learn more about us and join us.
