    • We assume participants intend to specialize in teaching young learners now or in the future.
    • Experience or training with young learners’ education is not required to complete this course.

    • A five-unit, 50-hour course that covers practical and theoretical aspects of teaching young learners.
    • Module 1 evaluates teaching and learning theory. It covers child development, general learning theories, native language acquisition theories, as well as second language acquisition theories. It also develops ideas for approaching young learners and considers how to create the best learning environment for them at different stages of their development. Finally, it looks at the various language skills students must learn.
    • Module 2 looks at constructing effective courses from the first placement testing to student needs analysis, proceeding to design of an effective curriculum. How, when and why to test the program’s effectiveness is also covered.
    • Module 3 explores various teaching materials designed for young learners, their effectiveness and use, as well as how to find them and create your own. The practical use in regard to order and behavior is also covered.
    • Module 4 looks at and identifies numerous learning strategies. Clear examples of how you can use particular lesson plans are presented.
    • Module 5 covers professional and personal development in several important areas, including how to maintain progress in your teaching career, creating effective resumes and application strategies. Finally, it also discusses beneficial associations and organizations to join to help with career development.
